This story was really just too much. Dianne was insane to say the least and Jonas no better. There was no reason for her to be a perpetual slave to Mr Heath and do the type of work he asked. On top of all that she could have gone back home at any given time. Independence is one thing but stupidity is another. This story was outrageously unreal and made no sense. I skipped most pages and only kept flipping pages not believing that Dianne could be so unreasonable and stubborn Diana was outspoken, independent and did not want to marry, the opposite of what every noble woman was taught. Having seen him from far, surrounded by admirers, Diana judged Jonas to be arrogant and not someone she could possible wed. Imagine her distress when she was told he was to court her. Feeling she had no other choice, she fled. Jonas, Duke of Wharton met Diana, and even though she was frosty and rude to him, was intrigued by her. When he discovered that she was missing, he went in search of her and found her working as a maid for a rather horrid man. The story continues with Diana discovering that her idea of independence is far different from reality. Meanwhile, Jonas was determined to show her that her first impression of him was wrong. Round out the characters with Simon, the Duke’s best friend, Millie, another maid and friend to Diana, and the despicable Mr. Heath. There are moments when you will gasp and shake your head, and moments where you want a Jonas of your very own. This story includes a social reform element theme and a rather large surprise in the epilogue.
